Our Purpose, Our Core Values
and Our Vision
Mission Statement
Saint John's United Methodist Church is embracing the community with God's love.
Our
Vision
-
It is our dream
to be a haven of love, comfort and acceptance for the entire diverse
community by sharing our prayers, by giving encouragement and guidance, and
by living the Good News of Jesus Christ to all and especially to
those who have
lost hope, are depressed, or are discouraged.
-
It is our dream
to equip every believer for their ministry using the spiritual gifts God has
given them by being involved in bible studies, retreats, small groups and
bible school to foster passionate spirituality which changes lives.
-
It is our dream
to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the youth of our
church/community through the skilled guidance of a staffed Youth Specialist.
-
It is our dream
to have leadership with a full commitment to Jesus Christ and thereafter
equip them with the tools, training and support necessary for becoming
committed to their church office, passionate for their ministry area, and
becoming mission workers in the community whether home or abroad.
-
It is our dream
to offer worship services that will appeal to our established members, newer
families and the un-churched.
-
It is our dream
to build God’s church in the Williamsport Area to 1,000+
members by 2016 that becomes a loving fellowship that can pray, laugh, cry,
learn and live in harmony together.
We believe these dreams will become reality because God has
inspired them and will provide for them, because they are built on the
foundation of The
Great
Commandment and
The
Great
Commission
(TGC2
See Below).
Our
Purpose
To change
people’s lives by offering Jesus Christ to the un-churched, the un-committed and
the committed, bringing them into His family, moving them to a Christlike
maturity for a life ministry and mission, to “God Be The Glory."
Our Core
Values
-
God is bigger, better, and
closer than we can dream possible.
-
The Bible is God’s perfect
guidebook for our eternal journey.
-
Jesus is God in the flesh
-
Prayer is the way we
fellowship with God by expressing our love and praise for Him, asking for
forgiveness by Him, giving thanks to Him, and by seeking His will in our
lives and the lives of others for furthering His Kingdom.
-
Through His Holy Spirit, God
lives in and works through us.
-
Nothing in creation “just
happened.” God made it all. We are to use everything in a way that honors
God and seeks to meet the needs of others.
-
Grace is the only way to
have a relationship with God.
-
Faith in God is the only way
to grow in our relationship with the Creator.
-
God has given us the freedom
to choose between good and evil. God can bring good even out of evil events
and He promises victory over evil for those who choose Jesus Christ as both
Lord and Savior.
-
Heaven and hell are real
places. Death is a beginning, not the end.
-
The church, which is the
community of believers, is to love and serve all people like Jesus loved and
served all people.
-
We will work in cooperation
with other Christian fellowships and ministries.
-
Jesus is coming again.
The Great Commandment
Love the
Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind
... Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these
two commandments.
Matthew 22: 37-40
The Great Commission
Go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have
commanded you.
Matthew 28: 19-20
